Eton Place at 258 Woolton Road is an established independent Turkish and Mediterranean restaurant in Childwall. Trading continuously for fifteen years, the restaurant serves charcoal-grilled meats, slow-simmered clay pot casseroles, and traditional hot and cold meze, acting as an everyday dining anchor for residents across Childwall, Wavertree, and Woolton.
What Eton Place does
The restaurant operates an open charcoal mangal grill alongside an all-day dining room. Customers are greeted by the smoky aroma of marinated lamb cutlets, skewered chicken and spiced minced meats searing over glowing coals. The interior is decorated in warm Mediterranean tones with rustic exposed brick, cushioned leather booth seating, and hanging Turkish mosaic lanterns. The dining room caters equally to relaxed mid-week lunches, multi-generational family weekend dinners, and intimate evening meals.
The charcoal mangal and Turkish dishes
The kitchen centres on authentic Anatolian and Mediterranean recipes prepared with fresh cuts and traditional marinades:
- Charcoal Mangal Grills: Marinated cubes of prime lamb and chicken breast skewered and chargrilled over coals (Kuzu and Tavuk Shish), hand-minced lamb spiced with red peppers and herbs (Adana Kebab), and tender grilled lamb cutlets (Pirzola). Large combination platters allow sharing across parties.
- Clay Pot Casseroles (Guvec): Diced lamb or chicken slow-simmered in earthenware clay pots with tomatoes, sweet peppers, garlic, shallots and Mediterranean herbs, topped with melted mozzarella cheese.
- Oven-Baked Moussaka: Classic baked layers of seasoned minced lamb, tender aubergines, courgettes and potatoes, blanketed with a rich béchamel sauce.
- Seafood Specialties: Whole fresh sea bass (Levrek) chargrilled and served with seasoned salad, alongside king prawns pan-sautéed in garlic butter and white wine.
Main courses are accompanied by fluffy Turkish seasoned pilav rice, house salad, and warm stone-baked flatbreads brushed with garlic butter.
Hot and cold meze
The starter menu is structured around sharing plates. Cold meze includes creamy tahini hummus, cacik (strained yoghurt with cucumber, garlic and mint), and shakshuka (roasted aubergine in a spiced tomato sauce). Hot options feature pan-fried Cypriot halloumi, crispy sigara boregi (cigar-shaped filo pastries stuffed with feta cheese and fresh parsley), and spiced lamb meatballs.
The story behind 258 Woolton Road
Eton Place was established around 2011 by restaurateur Turgut Olgun, who built a loyal neighbourhood following over fifteen years of continuous service. In mid-2026, following a brief temporary closure for kitchen utility upgrades, Olgun announced his personal retirement from the business.
Rather than closing permanently, the restaurant transitioned seamlessly to long-standing kitchen and front-of-house team members who preserved the recipes, suppliers, and staff. The restaurant reopened on Tuesday 28 July 2026 to continue trading under the Eton Place name, ensuring uninterrupted service for its dedicated South Liverpool clientele.
