Kirkdale and the streets around Walton do not have one compact restaurant quarter. Food is spread along Stanley Road, County Road, Walton Road and nearby side streets, so the sensible choice often depends on which part of North Liverpool you are already in.

Liverpool City Council's current licensing register lists Torinos Pizza & Indian at 249 Stanley Road, L5 7QD. The premises has a late-night refreshment licence, and current ordering listings show pizza, chicken and kebabs from the same address.
This is mainly a takeaway rather than a sit-down restaurant. Published opening times do not match exactly across the council licence and ordering platforms, so check the current ordering page if you are travelling specifically for a late meal.
Cafe Vanilla's current menu covers cooked breakfasts, breakfast wraps, toast, sandwiches, pasta and other daytime food. The Food Standards Agency lists the business at 249 County Road, L4 5PE and records an inspection on 14 July 2026.
At the time of this check, the menu listed a regular cooked breakfast at £7.50, a vegetarian breakfast at £9.75 and a breakfast wrap at £7.80. Treat those as checked prices rather than permanent ones.
The Black Horse is the straightforward pub-food option on County Road. Greene King's current information lists food service from noon to 9pm Monday to Saturday and noon to 8pm on Sunday.
The pub also lists sports television, a beer garden, car parking, family facilities and disabled facilities. Televised football can change the atmosphere considerably, so it is sensible to check fixtures if you want a quieter meal.
Byrnes Fish and Chips says the family business was established in 1932 and is now run by the founder's great-grandchildren. Its Walton shop is at 69 Stuart Road, L4 5QT.
The practical detail matters here: Byrnes currently lists the Stuart Road shop as open Monday to Friday from 11.45am to 7pm, with Saturday and Sunday closed. It is therefore a weekday option rather than a reliable weekend fallback.
The Lion Restaurant specialises in Sri Lankan and Japanese cooking. Its current menu includes Sri Lankan curries and fried rice alongside sushi and other Japanese dishes.
Current prices on the restaurant's own menu include chicken fried rice at £11.95, beef fried rice at £12.95 and the Lion's Special fried rice at £14.95. If a particular dish is the reason for the journey, check the current menu before setting off.
The Thomas Frost currently opens from 8am until midnight every day. Wetherspoon also lists step-free access, Wi-Fi, sports television and baby-changing facilities.
The name comes from a local draper rather than a pub landlord. Wetherspoon says Thomas Frost moved into one of six shops on the site in the 1880s. By 1910 his drapery business occupied all six, and the later building became Frost's Department Store before its conversion to a pub.
For a late takeaway in Kirkdale, Stanley Road gives you Torinos without heading towards the larger cluster around Walton. County Road is the most useful stretch when breakfast or pub food would both work. Stuart Road is the specific trip for Byrnes, while Walton Road gives you the widest difference in style between the Lion and the Thomas Frost.
The distances are large enough that "North Liverpool" should not be treated as one walkable food district. Check the exact address before leaving, especially if you are travelling from the city centre or combining food with football.
Kirkdale station and Sandhills station serve different sides of this area. Merseyrail currently gives both stations a Step Free Access Rating A. Kirkdale has lifts to both platforms, while Sandhills has lifts and ramps.
Bus routes along County Road, Walton Road and the surrounding streets can change with diversions and events. Check Merseytravel's current timetables on the day rather than relying on an old route number.

Anfield fixtures affect roads, buses, pubs and takeaways well beyond the stadium. Work on the Walton Breck Road highways scheme is also under way and, according to Liverpool FC's travel update, is due to continue until March 2027. A single-lane carriageway closure is in place on the section between Oakfield Road and Sleepers Hill during the programme.

Everton home games also put extra pressure on Sandhills and the roads towards the northern docks. Merseytravel's Hill Dickinson Stadium advice says Sandhills is a popular arrival station and the advised option after matches, while Bank Hall and Moorfields are alternatives on the way in.

The bigger point is geographical. Kirkdale, County Road, Walton Road and Stuart Road are close enough to belong in the same North Liverpool guide, but not close enough to treat as one compact restaurant strip. Start with the part of the area you are actually heading to, then choose the food.
